A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false fingernail, but more durable) that is fitted on top of your own existing tooth.
Veneers are a good treatment option to consider if your teeth are stained, chipped, worn, damaged, or not quite in the right position. They look like natural teeth and don’t require a lot of healthy tooth to be removed.
Veneers can also be used to close small gaps between teeth when braces are not suitable. They can change the shape and colour of the teeth – closing gaps, replacing worn edges and increasing symmetry. Porcelain Veneers, if well looked after, are incredibly durable and tend to last longer than Composite Veneers.
Often a small amount of tooth will have to be removed for the veneer to look it’s best, but this is kept to a minimum and sometimes not needed at all.
You can have just one veneer fitted or a whole set, known as a smile makeover.
